Who is eligible to apply for Grenadian citizenship through investment?

Any individual, who is 18 years or older, comes from an allowed country, has earned his/her income legitimately, does not have a current visa denial from the UK or a European country, does not have a previous citizenship application denial from a Caribbean CBI programme, and has not been convicted of a crime for which the maximum sentence for a similar offence in Grenada is more than six months, can apply as a main applicant to the programme.

The timeline for a citizenship application is typically dependant on the risk profile of an applicant, and the level of due diligence that is facilitated.

On average, low risk applicants tend to have their citizenship applications processed within a four-to-five-month period, medium risk applications can be processed within a six to eight month period; while high risk applicants can be take eight months or more to be processed.

Grenada’s Citizenship by Investment Programme allows applicants to include one spouse, biological or adopted children under the age of 30, stepchildren under the age of 30, dependent parents and grandparents of any age of both the main applicant and the spouse, and siblings, who are 18 years or older, unmarried, and without children, of both the main applicant and the spouse.

Disabled children, who are age 30 or older, but are dependant on either the main applicant or the spouse, can also be included.

Future children of Grenadians, who earned citizenship through the Citizenship by Investment Programme (economic citizens) can obtain Grenadian citizenship.

Babies born to economic citizens within a year of the grant of citizenship, can be retroactively added to their parents’ application, as long as the application for the newborn is submitted within six months of the newborn’s birth.

Grenada does not accept applications from Belarusians, North Koreans, Russians and stateless individuals.

Applications from Afghanistan, Iran, Sudan, and Yemen are accepted, but only if certain criteria is met.

Individuals in a polygamous marriage are only allowed to add one spouse to their application.

Other spouses may obtain citizenship by filing an individual citizenship application.

There are three main routes through which an individual can obtain Grenada citizenship. The two popular options are by donating money to the government’s National Transformation Fund or by purchasing an investment unit in an approved real estate project.

The National Transformation Fund is a walkaway option that supports the completion of capital projects and builds national resilience; while the real estate option raises construction capital for government approved private projects that provide investors with the possibility recovering some of their upfront investment, by way of paying an annual return and disposing of the property after a mandatory holding period of five years.

Purchases at or slightly above the $270,000 price point represent a
fractional interest in real property or in the company that owns real property, whereas purchases at or above the $350,000 price point represent a single titled interest in real property.

Investors can possibly recover their investment in the future through a resale of the investment interest to an ordinary investor or an individual, who is also looking to invest in Grenada citizenship.

Yes. An individual is allowed to switch his/her investment option after applying for Grenada citizenship.

However, there is a fee of $50,000 charged by the programme for such changes.

Anyone who is aged 17 or older and subjected to due diligence will have to attend a virtual interview as part of the citizenship review process.

Grenada employs a robust due diligence process that includes different intelligence systems.

Private due diligence companies are hired to conduct on-the-ground research in every country that an individual lived in for a year or more in the last ten years.

In addition to this, data from Grenada’s Financial Intelligence Unit, and the Joint Regional Communications Centre in CARICOM – which manages the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) that screens approximately forty (40) Million passengers annually, specifically those entering, and travelling within the CARICOM Region through air and seaports – is used.

Yes. An application for Grenada citizenship through the Citizenship by Investment Programme is a remotely controlled process.

A Local Agent in Grenada will submit the application on a client’s behalf and monitor its progress until its completion.
